Belsh joins green destinations
– December 2022
The Municipality of Belsh is pleased to announce its engagement with Green Destination.
Green Destination is an international program for sustainable tourism management to help promote the sustainable development of tourism. Last week, municipality of Belsh signed an agreement with Spoonbill Nest Innovation Center, the Green Destinations Representative for sustainable tourism management.
Over the next year, the Municipality of Belsh will focus on core criteria, with a long-term goal of receiving a Green Destination Award, and eventually Certification.
The Municipality of Belsh’s natural landscapes, historical sites, and local products make it an ideal location for rural and outdoor tourism. The municipality recognizes the need to develop tourism with great care and long-term vision, and as such has chosen to pursue sustainable tourism goals as to ensure the quality and health of the local community and economy for generations to come.
About Green Destinations
The Green Destinations Award & Certification Program challenges destinations (municipalities, regions, protected areas and private destinations) to promote responsible destination management on an ongoing and sustained basis with the aim of stimulating the tourism sector to implement leading environmental practices. Participating destinations engage in a sustainability management system, with every 2 years an independent verification of performance and progress, and recommendations for improvements. Green Destinations Certification is accredited by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). More information: www.greendestinations.org
About Spoonbill Nest Innovation Center & Balkan Green
Spoonbill Nest Innovation Center (SNIC) is a non-profit organization focused on providing training and education for the Digital and Green Transitions. They are a founding member of Balkan Green, the organization that manages the Green Destinations programs in the region, including Albania. In this role, SNIC is the Green Destinations Representative for Albania and Kosovo.
